Mardi Gras Weekend 3/6

I finally got around to uploading the few photos I took from last trip. I managed to get a few good shots of New Orleans Square. I didn't get Star Tours pix because they weren't coming out very good and I was unable to get over to DCA to get TLM pix. The building looks stunning, btw.

well without further ado...

New Orleans Square all decked out for Mardi Gras. The beads and decorations were really nice.

Tiana's Mardi Gras Celebration. It was pretty much a stationary version of Tiana's Showboat Jubilee, but still great nonetheless. I had more shots of this but some had people's heads in them. I was stuck behind a lot of tall people -___-

Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!

I'm trying to work on acquiring photography skills, and I figured I'd practice at Disneyland :]

ALSO I found some footage of the earthquake that recently struck Japan, taken by my cousin Joe. He lives in Tokyo and goes to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea very often, and he happened to be in Tokyo DisneySea when it hit. Best wishes to those who were affected by the quake.

aloha

i have returned from Disneyland! expect a rather anemic report sometime soon.

my past two trips to the Tiki Room i was lucky enough to see/hear Maynard do his spiel. after the first time, i was like hmm this CM seems familiar but why? then i realized it was Maynard! for those who don't know(not that i'd expect you to know), Maynard is a CM who loves his job and is very animated. he's worked many jobs around DL, from Haunted Mansion to Jungle Cruise to crowd control for parades. i had never run into him until recently when i started going to the Tiki Room. his spiel really adds to the whole Tiki Room experience, except for the fact that we don't get to yell out "WAKE UP JOSE". that's really my only complaint.

here's Tiki Maynard's spiel:

talking Mickey testing

the amazing talking Mickey was doing m&g's under the supervision of some suits at his house yesterday as part of a test run. talking Mickey has done m&g's before, just rarely. this time Mickey seemed to have pre-recorded responses and he didn't blink, but he's still amazing nonetheless. i would really love to meet talking Mickey one day. hopefully this test was successful enough to bring him back more often :D

meeska mouska mickey mouse

i finally found a way to wear my too small vintage Disneyland sweater. i found it when i was thrifting in Hollywood, and i knew i had to have it. i'm not really sure how old it is, as there's no year printed anywhere on the tags. but it's copyrighted as Walt Disney Productions and i've never seen that on anything ever at all so i'm at a loss.

anyways, i was going for some Mickey Mouse Club vibes today.

my Dooney&Bourke 55th bag is hanging out in the background

my rooms a ridiculous mess. it always is though.

i wish i had a Mousekateer esque sweater with my name on it.

the pumpkin king with the skeleton grin

do they still sell this sweatshirt at the parks? i've had it for maybe 8 years now. Jack's face is kind of discolored and cracked and the sweatshirt itself is starting to fade. there was a point when everyone and their mother had this same sweatshirt when you were at the parks. in fact, i think everyone just had it in general. as much as i love Nightmare, the ridiculous amount of merch being sold at the park bothers me. i realize that NBC(Nightmare Before Christmas) is a popular commodity, but i feel like it's somewhat overrated sometimes. like they'll just slap Jack's face on anything and it sells. some of the NBC merch is actually kind of cool, but the majority of it is kind of disappointing. i still enjoy a trip to Le Bat en Rouge every time i go, just to see if there was any slight improvement in merchandise.

Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my all time favorite movies. i have vivid memories of watching this all the time growing up. i remember watching it almost every night, and i remember the trailer/ad for Gargoyles(another one of my favorite things hehe) before the movie started. i watched that vhs so much it stopped working. i think it eventually faded from my memory until a few years later, when i got it on dvd. i was about 10 years old, and incidentally NBC was having it's 10th anniversary. this meant a huge surge in merch being sold at DL, as well as Hot Topic. and i had nearly all of it. (cut me some slack, i was 10)

my obsession eventually waned into deep appreciation rather than fanaticism. i'm still captivated by the animation, and i'll occasionally dig out some of my old Jack t-shirts. i'll admit, i havent watched it in a while. but i'm very confident that i still can recite all the lines and sing all the songs(with the voices!)
